Stanway (Colchester) Excavation Webcam, 1997

An early webcam (the first at an archaeological excavation?) was installed at an excavation on an important Romano-British burial site (ca 60AD) west of Colchester. The area is now a gravel pit. It is possible the site was visited by the Emperor Claudius following the Roman invasion of AD43.

This is a sequence of archived image sets from the webcam, together with diary entries from when they could be downloaded from an active website. For more information, see 'City of Victory', Philip Crummy, Colchester Archaeological Trust, 1997. ISBN 1 89771905 1.

The webcam and associated software were set-up by staff of the Department of Electronic Systems Engineering (now Computing and Electronic Systems) at the University of Essex.
